Jags Card Third At Kiawah For Best Finish Of The Fall

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Augusta University men's golf team competed in its final event of the 2018 fall season at the East Bay Deli Classic at Kiawah and finished in third place at 13-over-par. It is Augusta's best finish of the season through five tournaments.

Augusta remained inside the top 10 on the 21-man leaderboard for all three rounds. Tee times at 7:30 a.m. off No. 1 and 10 started the tournament the first two days and the Jags shot 4-over (292) in round one and 5-over (293) in round two. Starting in a shotgun start on Tuesday, Augusta shaved five strokes in round three and climbed the standings to third place.

 

The College of Charleston won the team title (-3), Memphis moved to second (E), Augusta third (+13), USC Upstate fourth (+14), and Radford fifth (+18) for the top teams. Memphis's Isaiah Jackson and CofC's Christian Baliker shared medalist honors at -7.

 

Freshman Alex van Wyk shined for Augusta and took 11^th individually with a team-best 69 (-3) in the final round to 2-over-par. He had 13 birdies across 54 holes, including six in round three.

 

Jaguar junior Gustav Andersson finished just outside the top 15 at 3-over-par to tie for 16^th. Sophomores Alex Shead and Laken Hinton each tied for 25^th (+6), and sophomore Olof Gunnarsson tied for 83^rd (+17). AU also sent two individuals and freshman Viktor Lindgren shot 11-over to tie for 51^st and junior McCullough Pickens 17-over for 83^rd.

 

The Jaguars return in 2019 to compete in the Southwestern Invitational Southwestern at North Ranch Country Club, hosted by Pepperdine University, in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
