STILLWATER, Okla. – The Augusta University men's golf team opened play at the 2018 NCAA Championships in 28th place on Monday at Karsten Creek Golf Club. The Jaguars are six shots back from a top-15 score.

After two weather delays, the 30th-seeded Jaguars began the tournament with a soggy round one on the par-72, 7-460-yard course and shot a 10-over-par 298. Augusta bested No. 9 Auburn and No. 7 Florida in the 30-team field.

Northwestern shot an 8-under 280 on the first 18 holes to surpass the course's single-round record. The previous low 18-hole score in a team event was a 6-under 282 put together by Florida at the 1996 Karsten Creek Collegiate.

No. 13 Texas Tech (-4) was second after day one, No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 14 Clemson shared third place (-3), and No. 1 Oklahoma State and No. 4 Vanderbilt shared fifth (-1). Round one was suspended due to the delays and was completed on Saturday morning.

Lone Augusta senior Broc Everett, sophomore Gustav Andersson, and freshmen Alex Shead, Laken Hinton, and Olof Gunnarsson represent Augusta in its 13th NCAA Championship appearance.

"It was a really long start with the weather delays and always trying to guess when you're going off," Everett said. "I think I warmed up about three different times today and that was very interesting. Once we got out there, the course was in pretty good shape. It was wet obviously, but not terrible."

Everett has paced the Jags in five of their 11 events this season and he put himself in position again with a round-one 70 (-2). Augusta was paired with Iowa State and UCF and teed off on the back nine for the opening round. Everett shot birdie on his second hole of the day and fired four total in his first nine holes to end tied for 16th.

"I kept it in play and just kept plugging along and didn't do anything too special. It was a solid showing and I'm excited for the rest of the week. It's going to be fun," Everett said.

Sophomore Gustav Andersson carded a 1-over 73 for the Jaguars and is tied for 55th. AU was rounded out by its freshmen trio. Gunnarsson shot 77 (+5) and is tied for 119th, Hinton 78 (+6) to tie for 129th and Shead a 79 (+7) to take a tie for 138th with two more guaranteed rounds to go.

Augusta tees off on one for round two on Saturday, May 26 with tee time beginning at 3:10 p.m. (CDT).
