Augusta Tied With Florida A&M To Open MEAC Championship

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Augusta University men's golf team started the quest for its fourth straight conference title on Thursday at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship. Augusta is tied for first with Florida A&M in the eight-team, after shooting a 4-over-par 292 in round one.

 

 

Augusta sent senior Broc Everett, sophomore Gustav Andersson, and freshmen trio Alex Shead, Laken Hinton, and Olof Gunnarsson to begin postseason play. Everett is third overall in the 39 man field and paced AU with an even-par 72. Shead and Hinton each shot 73 (+1) to sit tied for fourth, while Andersson is tied for eighth (+2), and Gunnarsson is tied for 17th (+5).

 

Savannah State University hosts the event at Crosswinds Golf Club – a unique par-72 course with narrow fairways that features five par-5s and five par-3s, along with TiFeagle greens and Bermuda fairways. SSU's Zach Otto has the lead after day one with a score of 69 (-2).

 

The championship features three-time defending champion Augusta University, along with Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Hampton, Maryland Eastern Shore, North Carolina A&T State, North Carolina Central and Savannah State. The winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Div. I Men's Golf Championship. The NCAA Div. I Men's Golf Selection Show will air on Wednesday, May 2 at 5:30 p.m. on Golf Channel.
