RALEIGH, N.C. – Led by a 4-under-par 67 from senior Broc Everett, the Augusta University men's golf team completed the first day of play at the 2018 NCAA Raleigh Regional on Monday. Through 18 holes at Lonnie Poole Golf Course, the Jaguars are in sixth place out of 14 teams with a combined score of 278 (-6) – just seven shots off the lead.

Hosted by NC State on the par-71, 7,272-yard course, the Raleigh Regional features eight teams ranked in the top 50 and four in the top 25. No. 16 Texas leads the tournament after shooting 13-under-par. No. 4 Georgia Tech is closely behind in second (-10), while No. 36 NC State sits third (-9) and No. 21 Arizona State and Santa Clara are tied for fourth (- 8) to make up the top five teams. The Jaguars are two shots out of the top five. The low five teams and low individual not on those on teams advance to the NCAA Championships.

Seeded 12th in the tournament, Augusta sent senior Broc Everett, sophomore Gustav Andersson, and freshmen trio Alex Shead, Laken Hinton, and Olof Gunnarsson – the same starting lineup that won the 2018 MEAC Championship to earn the bid to the postseason.

Everett fired a 67 (-4) and had five birdies on the day to take a tie for sixth overall. Hinton and Andersson each came in with a 1-under 70 to share a tie for 23rd, Shead shot an even par 71 and is in 34th and Gunnarsson a 74 (+2) to take 56th.

The tournament continues on Tuesday, May 15 with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. for round two.
