DULUTH, Ga. – The Augusta University men's golf team finished seventh on Tuesday at the Autotrader Collegiate Classic at Berkeley Hills Country Club. Augusta finished 19-over par and improved by one spot on the leaderboard in the final day with their lowest round of the 54-hole event.
Hosted by Georgia State, the Autotrader Collegiate Classic featured 16 teams that opened play on Monday in a shotgun format on the par-72, 6,706-yard course. The Georgia Southern Eagles had a 23-shot lead to start the final round on Tuesday. The Eagles won at 17-under par, while Georgia State was second (+7), Notre Dame third (+9), Mississippi State fourth (+13), and Lipscomb fifth (+14) for the top scoring teams.
Taking home the individual title out of 92 golfers was Georgia Southern's Steven Fisk who won at 19-under par.
Augusta was tied for eighth heading into round three and carded a 292 (+4) on Tuesday – their best round of the week. Augusta senior Broc Everett was in fifth place 3-under par to begin round three and he finished tied for fourth overall at 1-under par.
Freshman Alex Shead sealed a tie for seventh (+1) after shooting his low round of 1-under 71 in the final outing for AU and rookie Olof Gunnarsson took 53rd with a round-three 74. Jags sophomore Gustav Andersson placed 66th and freshman Lake Hinton 80th.
The Jaguars head to Orlando, Fla., Oct., 22-24 for the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of Central Florida. It is the fourth straight year that Augusta will compete at the Tavistock.
