WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Augusta University men's golf team improved by six shots in round two of the NCAA West Lafayette Regional and are in seventh place at 10-over par. Augusta is seven shots back from an advancing spot to the NCAA finals with one more round to play.
No. 44 New Mexico and No. 17 UNLV danced back and forth atop the leaderboard, but New Mexico overtook the top spot in day two and leads the tournament 6-under par on the par-72, 7,411-yard course. UNLV is in second (-3), and No. 5 Florida, No. 38 and host Purdue, and No. 20 Auburn are knotted in a tie for third at 3-over par.
The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals. Round three begins on Wednesday, May 17 with tee times going off at 7:30 a.m.
Augusta shot 2-over par (290) on Tuesday, guided by senior Emmanuel Kountakis' team-best 70 (-2). Kountakis improved 12 spots in the field and is tied for 10th (-1) with four round-two birdies. Senior Viktor Edin shot an even-par 72 in the first day and followed with a 74 (+2) in the second outing to take a tie for 19th (+2).
Senior Jake Marriott sits right outside the top 25 at 4-over par after posting a 75 (+3) in round two, and Broc Everett dropped four strokes with a 2-over 74 on Tuesday. Everett and freshman Gustav Andersson share a tie for 48th (+8) to round out Augusta's starting five.
