Augusta Third After 36 Holes At Palmetto Intercollegiate

AIKEN, S.C. – The Augusta University men's golf team is in third place at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate and were only one of three teams to shoot under par at historic Palmetto Golf Club on Monday.

 

 

In their second event of 2017, the Jags sat in third place through round one and were seven shots off the lead and three shots out of second with a 276 (-4). They fired a 282 (+2) in the second.

 

No. 3 Virginia leads the 18-team field 17-under par and No. 16 Clemson sits 12 strokes ahead of Augusta in second place. No. 39 South Carolina are behind in AU in fourth, and East Carolina fifth.

 

Senior Viktor Edin recorded the lowest round of his career with a 65 (-5) in the first 18 holes. Edin had four first-round birdies and an eagle on the par-five, 550-yard 14th hole. He shot 70 (+1) in round two and is tied for fifth overall four below par.

 

In round one, Junior Broc Everett shot in the 60s for the eighth time this season and the third time in his last four rounds. He posted a round-one 67 (-3) and followed with an even-par 70 for a tie for eighth. Senior Jake Marriott is tied for 16th, senior Emmanuel Kountakis in 28th, and seniors Cooper Brown a tie for 73 with one more round remaining.

 

Competing on the par-70, 6,617-yard course is Akron, Augusta, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Francis Marion, Furman, Georgia Southern, Liberty, Presbyterian, South Carolina, USC Aiken, USC Upstate, Temple, Virginia and Wofford.

 

Augusta returns to the Palmetto on Tuesday, March 7 for the final round of 18 holes.
