Men’s Golf Nine Shots Off The Lead At Linger Longer Invitational

EATONTON, Ga. – The Augusta University men's golf team broke open play at the Linger Longer Invitational on Sunday at Great Waters at Reynolds Plantation and sit in a three-way tie for fifth place with No. 8 Virginia and No. 43 Kennesaw State in the 14-team field after round one.

 

Hosted by Kennesaw State and Mercer on the par-72, 7,073-yard course, the Linger Longer kicked off day one of three on Sunday and No. 4 nationally-ranked Baylor leads 14-under par. No. 37 Michigan, Troy, and UNCG are tied for second (-8), and the Jags shot five under with KSU and Virginia for fifth.

 

AU's Broc Everett, Viktor Edin, Jake Marriott, Emmanuel Kountakis, and Gustav Andersson made the start. They started on the back nine and stayed in the top five all day. Kountakis is tied for eighth overall with a 68 (-4) – the second lowest round of his career in Augusta.

 

Edin etched five birdies and carded a three-under 69 for a T13 and Everett fired 71 (-1) with four birdies to tie for 21st with 36 holes to play. Marriott also turned in for birdies on the day for a 75 (+3) and Gustav Andersson sunk six birdies, but shot 83 (+11).

 

Round two of the LLI begins at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, March 20 with tee times off one and 10.
