KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Augusta University men's golf team finished their fall season at the East Bay Deli Classic on Tuesday afternoon with a second-place showing at Turtle Point Golf Club. The Jaguars finished four shots off the lead out of 22 teams and need seven shots above par.
Hosted by the Charleston Southern on the par-72, 6,911-yard course, the event lasted for three days of 18 holes. The Jags were in second place after round one and jumped into first place after 36 holes with an eight shot lead. In the final outing, Augusta shot 299 (+11) to take second place.
Tennessee improved two spots on Tuesday and took first place three above par. College of Charleston carded third (+13), Jacksonville Sate fourth (+15), and Coastal Carolina fifth (+28) for the top five teams.
Wofford College's Andrew Novak won the tournament seven-under par.
Senior Jake Marriott recorded his second best round of the tournament in round three and shot even to finish even in a tie for eighth. Next in line for the Jaguars was junior Broc Everett who posted a 73 (+1) to tie for 11th and senior Cooper Brown placed 21st with a round-three 78 (+6).
Also shooting a 78 (+6) in round three, senior Emmanuel Kountakis finished one spot behind Brown in a tie for 22nd. Senior Viktor Edin tied for 30th eight-over par with a 76 (+4) in his final round.
Augusta's individual competitor Gustav Andersson tied for 82nd overall.
Augusta finished in the top 10 in all five fall tournaments and placed in the top five twice. The Jaguars return to competition in the New Year from Feb. 27-28 at the Southwestern Invitational, hosted by Pepperdine, in Westlake Village, Calif.
