KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Augusta University men's golf team teed off in Kiawah Island, S.C., for the second time this fall season in the East Bay Deli Classic at Turtle Point Golf Club. After the opening round on Sunday, Augusta is in second place out of 22 teams and three strokes off the lead.
Hosted by the Charleston Southern on the par-72, 6,911-yard course, the East Bay Deli Classic at Kiawah started with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. featuring ten programs inside Golfstat's Top-100 rankings. The event is set for three individual rounds of 18 holes.
Tennessee turned in the low round of the day with a 285 (-3). Augusta shot even-par 288 to grab second place. Memphis (+2) is in third and Lipscomb and College of Charleston are tied for fourth (+6) for the top five scoring squads.
Augusta senior duo Jake Marriott and Cooper Brown are in the top 10 with Marriott in a share for third and Brown a tie for sixth. Marriott had a birdie and an eagle on the 520-yard 13th hole and Brown shot 71 (-1) for his fourth round this season par or better.
Senior Emmanuel Kountakis carded four birdies on the day and is tied for 13th at even par. Jaguar senior Viktor Edin competed in his first event of the 2016-17 season and is tied with junior Broc Everett in 44th after they shot 75 (+3).
Augusta had one individual in the field of 116 golfers, Gustav Andersson, and he shot 80 (+8) to sit 93rd.
The event rolls along on Monday, Oct. 31 with another 10:00 a.m. shotgun on Halloween!
