CHASKA, Minn. - Former Augusta men's golf All-American Patrick Reed made his second appearance in the Ryder Cup and guided the United States to a 17-11 victory in the 41st addition at Hazeltine National Golf Club on Sunday.

Reed gave the Unites States the first point in Sunday's marquee matchup after he took down Rory McIlroy in the opening pairing. A personality made for the unique and interactive Ryder Cup style, Reed was the clear crowd favorite all weekend and thrived on the atmosphere.

The former Augusta Jaguar, who won back-to-back NCAA Division I Championships, shot a four-under 32 on the front nine on Sunday, but McIlroy matched him for an exhilarating and vocal first nine holes of golf.  On No. 12, Reed pulled out a par to power past McIlroy and take the lead as he would finish one up to win the round. A birdie on No. 18 sealed the win.

Team USA fell to the Europeans in the 2014 Ryder Cup in Scotland, but returned to the States to take the tile. The Europeans had won the last three times and eight of the last 10 entering 2016.

The win moved Reed to 6-1-2 in his Ryder Cup career. The 2016 US team was made up of Rickie Fowler, J.B. Holmes, Dustin Johnson, Zach Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Matt Kuchar, Phil Mickelson, Ryan Moore, Patrick Reed, Brandt Snedeker, Jordan Spieth, and Jimmy Walker.

Team Europe was comprised of Rafa Cabrera Bello, Matt Fitzpatrick, Sergio Garcia, Martin Kaymer, Rory McIlroy, Thomas Pieters, Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson, Andy Sullivan, Lee Westwood, Danny Willett, and Chris Wood.
