RALEIGH, N.C. – The Augusta University men's golf team returned to the NC State Wolfpack Intercollegiate on Monday as defending champions and are in third place after two rounds in the 2016 addition at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

The 17-team field began with 36 holes in a shotgun format on the par-71, 7,358-yard course. East Carolina (-18) leads the event by five strokes over second place Kennesaw State (-13). The Jags (-5) are in third place ahead of tourney host NC State (-2) and Rhode Island holds on to fifth.
Augusta was made up of seniors Emmanuel Kountakis and Jake Marriott, juniors Broc Everett and Ryan Johnson, and freshman Gustav Andersson. Senior Cooper Brown also competed as an individual.
The Jaguars were in eighth place after shooting a 289 (+5) in round one, but climbed five spots to sit in third place five-under par. Augusta was led by Kountakis' one-under 70 in round one and he followed it up with a 69 to lead the team in a tie for fifth.
Kountakis was one of three Jaguars to shoot in the 60s in round one. Everett turned in a team-low 66 (-5) in round two and is tied for 11th and Marriott sits in 18th place with a 68 (-3) in the second round.
Johnson is tied for 56th and Andersson 69th to cap off the Jags through the opening day. After posting a combined 14 birdies in round one, Augusta carded 21 in round two to climb the charts.
Tuesday, Oct. 4 will feature 18 holes of competition with tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m.
