Jaguars Leading Home Event At 3M Augusta Invitational After Two Rounds

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta Jaguars took the lead in round two to pace the 15-team field through two rounds in their home event at the 3M Augusta Invitational on Saturday at Forest Hills Golf Club. The Jags are 18-under par to sit in first place and lead the event by three strokes.

Rain washed out the Friday practice round and created soggy conditions for the 36 hole shotgun format on the par-72 course for day one.

The tournament field includes No. 36 Augusta, Central Florida, Coastal Carolina, No. 3 Georgia, No. 32 Houston, No. 4 Illinois, Kennesaw State, No. 43 New Mexico, No. 38 Pepperdine, Presbyterian, No. 15 South Florida, No. 45 Tennessee, No. 2 Texas, USC Aiken, and Virginia Tech.

Of the 15 teams, eight are ranked in the top 50 and three are in the top five nationally according to Golfstat.com.

After 36 windy holes, the Jags fired 275 (-13) and improved five shots in round two for a 283. No. 2 Texas is (-15) and No. 4 Illinois (-15) are tied for second, No. 14 South Florida is fourth, and No. 3 Georgia sits number five.

Augusta seniors Robin Petersson and Maverick Antcliff, juniors Jake Marriott and Emmanuel Kountakis, and sophomore Broc Everett made up the starting five. Petersson fired 68 (-4) and 69 (-3) in his opening day to lead the team in a tie for second overall at seven under.

Everett posted four birdies in round one for a 71 (-1) and notched five for a 68 (-4) in the second round to sit tied for sixth five-under par.

Antcliff recorded the low round for the Jaguars in both rounds with a first-round 67 (-5) – highlighted by an eagle on the par-five No. 17 and four birdies. Antcliff is tied for 16th five shots below par.

Shooting the low round for his Jaguar career, Kountakis posted a 69 (-3) in round one and finished three below to sit tied for 21st. Marriott dropped two strokes from his score with a 72 (E) in the second round and is tied for 39th.

The third and final round of the 3M Augusta Invitational is scheduled for 18 holes on Sunday, April 3 at Forest Hills Golf Club with tee times off one and ten from 8:30 – 8:45 a.m. The event is free to the public and an awards ceremony and trophy presentation will take place on Sunday following play.
