AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta Jaguars competed in the Southern Intercollegiate Championship for the second straight year in Athens, Ga., and tied for fifth 14-over par in the 14-team field on Monday at Athens County Club.
The No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs hosted the event at the par-72, 6,917-yard course with 14 teams and 78 players in a shotgun format for 36 holes. Georgia won on their home course at 20-under par and three shots ahead of second place. No. 27 Arkansas notched second, Liberty third, Furman fourth, and No. 36 Augusta rounded out the top-five teams with a tie for fifth with Kennesaw State.
The Jaguars sent senior Maverick Antcliff, juniors Jake Marriott, Viktor Edin, Cooper Brown, and sophomore Broc Everett. The Jags were in seventh place after shooting a 298 (+10) in round one, but dropped six strokes in round two to card a 292 and finish plus four on the day.
Everett led the way for the Jags in a tie for seventh with a 69(-3) and 72 (E) with nine birdies over both rounds.
Antcliff and Marriott both tied for 28th overall at four-over par with both shooting 71 (-1) and 77 (+5) on the day. Brown ended up knotted in 52nd and Edin tied for 64th.
Nicolas Echavarria of Arkansas tied with UGA's No. 31 Greyson Sigg to win the individual title seven under.
The first SIC tournament was held in 1935 and ran annually through 1942. It resumed in 1946 and was held through 1965, then was relaunched in 1975 and ran through 1990. The tournament resumed last season with Georgia claiming the team title. Previous individual medalists include Wake Forest's Arnold Palmer in 1950, Oklahoma State's Bob Tway in 1979 and Centenary's Hal Sutton in 1980.
