AIKEN, S.C. – The Augusta Jaguars are in third place out of 18 teams after rounds one and two at the Cleveland Golf/Palmetto Intercollegiate at historic Palmetto Golf in Aiken, S.C.
The No. 35 nationally ranked Augusta Jaguars (according to Golfstat.com) teed off in their second event of the spring at USC Aiken's home event on the par-70, 6,617-yard course. The Palmetto is recognized as the fourth oldest golf course in the United States.
Of the 18 teams, six are ranked in the top 50 with USCA ranked No. 9 in Division II.
TEAMS: Akron, No. 35 Augusta, Chattanooga, Coastal Carolina, No. 45 East Carolina, Francis Marion, Furman, Georgia Southern, Idaho, Liberty, Maryland, No. 43 North Carolina State, Presbyterian College, No. 22 South Carolina, USC Aiken, No. 26 Virginia, Wisconsin, Wofford.
No. 22 South Carolina ran away with the event in the second round and sits in first place 18-under par. No. 26 Virginia is in second four under and Augusta holds third 12-over par. East Carolina is fourth one stroke back from the Jags and North Carolina State rounded out the top-five teams.
Augusta was nine-under par through their first eight holes of round one. The Jags ended the first 18 in second place with an even par 280 behind No. 22 South Carolina. Augusta finished with a 292 in round two and 12 shots over par for the day.
Senior Maverick Antcliff paced Augusta and is tied for fifth after shooting 68 (-2) and 69 (-1) with nine birdies over each round. Junior Jake Marriott sits in 12th at even par with a 69 (-1) and 71 (+1), and senior Robin Petersson placed inside the top 25 with a 71 and 73 to sit in a tie for 21st.
Sophomore Broc Everett made the start and is in tie for 71st while junior Emmanuel Kountakis sits 82nd.
The Jags wrap the tournament on Tuesday, March 8 with the final round of 18 holes.
