Augusta Headed To Cali For Southwestern Jones Invitational To Start Spring Season Feb. 29

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – The Augusta University men's golf team kicks off the 2016 spring season on the west coast at the Southwestern Jones Invitational, hosted by Pepperdine University in Westlake Village Calif., Feb. 29-March 1.

The Jaguars will compete in a two-day event at the North Ranch Country Club on the par-72, 6,986-yard course. The 15-team field begins with 36 holes in a shotgun format on Monday and plays the final 18 on Tuesday off holes one and 10. Live scoring will be provided at Golfstat.com

TEAMS SCHEDULED TO COMPETE (15): Augusta, Boise State, BYU, Fresno State, Iowa, Lipscomb, Mississippi State, Northwestern, Oregon, Pepperdine, Sam Houston State, San Diego, San Diego State, USC, Winthrop.

TOURNAMENT HISTORY: The Southwestern Jones Invitational is the combination of two previously existingtournaments: the Southwestern Intercollegiate (started by USC in 1978) and the Jones Invitational (hosted by Pepperdinethe last two years). See page 2 for more history.

Augusta returns to the CSRA for the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate, hosted by USC Aiken at the Palmetto Golf Club on March 7-8. The Jags finished fifth last season in the Palmetto.

Staying in the state, Augusta competes in the Linger Longer, hosted by Kennesaw State and Mercer, from March 20-22 at the Great Waters Reynolds Plantation in Eatonton, Ga.

The Jags host the 38th-annual 3M Augusta Invitational, sponsored by the Augusta Golf Association on April 2-3 at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.

The team makes one more regular-season trek before winding down the season at the Perry Maxwell in Ardmore, Okla., on April 16-17 at the Dornick Hills Country Club.

"Luckily, we are close to home for most of the spring, except for a new event in Ardmore, Okla., the Perry Maxwell," O'Keefe said. "The Perry Maxwell has a unique format in which all five players from each school will play together as a quintet for the first day of 36 holes in the tournament."

The Jags compete at the 2016 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Golf Tournament Championships on April 21-23 at the Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah, Ga. The winner receives an automatic qualification to the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship.

Six sites have been chosen for the 2016 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Regionals taking place May 16-18 at the Ol' Colony Golf Complex in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the Gallery Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz., the Blackwolf Run Meadow Valley Course in Kohler, Wis., the Championship Course at UNM in Albuquerque, N.M., the Karsten Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., and the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Nashville, Tenn.

The 2016 Division I Men's Golf Championship will be held May 27-June 1 at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
