RALEIGH, N.C. – Augusta University men's golf senior Robin Petersson is tied for first overall at the the NC State Wolfpack Intercollegiate and the Jaguars sit in a tie for eighth after the opening 18 holes on Monday at the rainy Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
An 11:30 a.m. shotgun start was originally scheduled to start the event Monday on the par-71, 7,358-yard course, but inclement weather moved the format to 18 holes on Monday and Tuesday.
West Virginia leads the 16-team field at five-over par, while Campbell is second, NC State and Chattanooga are tied for third, and UNCG is fifth. Lipscomb is sixth, Loyola – Maryland seventh, Augusta and Wofford eighth, Temple 10th, George Washington 11th, USC Upstate 12th, Western Carolina 13th, Drexel 14th, Seton Hall 15th, and Hardford 16th.
The Augusta starting five teed off on the back nine and consisted of seniors Robin Petersson and Maverick Antcliff, juniors Jake Marriott and Jackson Stroup, and sophomore Broc Everett. Junior Emmanuel Kountakis competed as an individual. The Jags are 13 over par as a team and are even with Wofford in eighth.
Jags senior Robin Petersson fired a three-under 68 and managed six birdies in the wet conditions. Petersson is knotted in first with Max Sear of West Virginia. Jake Marriott and Broc Everett both shot 75 (+4) and are tied for 43rd and Maverick Antcliff and Jackson Stroup are tied for 70th after shooting 79 (+8) in round one.
Competing as an individual for the Jags, Emmanuel Kountakis is tied for 15th overall with his round-one 73 (+2) – highlighted by four birdies.
Final round tee times will commence on Tuesday, Oct. 6 off holes one and ten.
