OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – The Jaguar men's golf team began their 2015-16 campaign on Friday at the Olympia Fields / Fighting Illini Invitational in Olympia Fields, Ill., and GRU Augusta is tied for eighth place with UNLV at seven-over par on Friday afternoon – despite teams not finish due to weather.
Now in its 10th season, the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational welcomed the nation's top teams to the famed Olympia Fields Country Club. The club is home to several premier events including the 2015 U.S. Amateur. Olympia Fields has hosted two U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, five Western Opens and a U.S. Senior Open among other high-level tournaments.
The Olympia Fields Country Club's North course featured 15 teams: Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Florida State, GRU Augusta, Illinois, Indiana, UNLV, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Texas A&M, Texas, and Texas Tech.
Play was suspended for the final group on holes 17 and 18 due to a thunderstorm. The final group will finish round one at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. See the results below as it sits now.
Jags senior Maverick Antcliff fired a 67 (-3) to start his final season. Antcliff posted three front-nine birdies and two on the back to sit tied for seventh in the individual field.
Junior Jake Marriott is tied for 27th after posting a two-over 72. Senior Robin Petersson and sophomore Broc Everett each shot 74 (+4) in round one and are even in 41st overall, while newcomer Emanuel Kountakis shot 76 (+6) and is tied for 62nd.
Florida State leads the event at seven-under par, but Arizona State, Texas Tech, and Indiana had players still on the course. Round one will finish tomorrow and round two will follow with the second round of 18 holes.
