AUGUSTA, Ga. --
The Augusta State men's golf team arrived in San Diego,
Calif., Tuesday morning and began their on-site preparations for
the NCAA Regionals, which tee off Thursday morning at Carlton Oaks
Golf Course.
The fifth-ranked Jaguars are making their 12th NCAA regional
appearance in the last 13 years, and 15th overall. ASU will be the
No. 3 seed in the three-day, 54-hole regional, which begins
Thursday, May 20 and runs through Saturday, May 22. San Diego State
University is serving as the tournament host.
Redesigned by Pete Dye in 1989, Carlton Oaks Golf Course
(www.carltonoaksgolf.com) originally opened in 1958 and is located
just 20 minutes from downtown San Diego. The 7,360-yard, par-72
layout plays to a course rating of 75.2 and a slope rating of
146.
ASU will be looking to advance to the NCAA Championships for the
11th time in 15 NCAA Regional appearances.
Sophomore Taylor Floyd will lead off at 11:00 a.m., EST for the
Jags, who will be paired with No. 1 seed Oregon and No. 2 seed
UNLV. The Ducks are ranked No. 1 in the nation in the latest
Golfweek magazine rankings, while the Rebels are ranked No. 16.
Junior Carter Newman will follow Floyd out on the course at 11:10
a.m., followed by junior Mitch Krywulycz at 11:20 and sophomore
Patrick Reed at 11:30. Junior Henrik Norlander will anchor the ASU
lineup at 11:40.
Live scoring of the regional will be available at
www.aug.edu/athletics and www.golfstat.com.
The NCAA's modified format for the postseason features six
regionals around the nation. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not
on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the
other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not
on those teams.
The top five teams from each of the six regionals (54 holes each)
and the low individual not a member of those teams will advance to
the NCAA Championships on June 1-6 at The Honors Course in
Ooltewah, Tenn., near Chattanooga. (View Regional Notes)
