AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Two former Augusta State
men’s golf standouts will be in action beginning Wednesday,
Dec.3 at the PGA Tour’s Qualifying Tournament in La Quinta,
Calif.
The final stage of the tournament, better known as Q School, is a
six-day, 108-hole marathon played over the PGA West Nicklaus
Tournament Course and the PGA West TPC Stadium Course.
Richard Johnson, an All-American as a senior in 1995 and Major
Manning, a two-time All-American in 2005 and 2007, coincidentally
are paired together along with Jeff Hart. The threesome tees off at
8:20 a.m. Pacific time Wednesday on the TPC Stadium Course.
The 163-player field includes 20 former PGA Tour winners who have
combined for 48 victories. In fact, 10 of the 20 are multiple
winners, including seven-time winners Mark Brooks and John Huston.
Brooks captured the 1996 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in
Valhalla, Kent., edging Kenny Perry in a playoff.
After the PGA TOUR cards have been decided Monday, the next number
of players nearest to 50 will receive fully exempt membership on
the Nationwide Tour. The remaining players who have made it to the
final stage of q-school will have conditionally exempt status on
the Nationwide Tour.
The final three rounds will be televised on Golf Channel beginning
Saturday, Dec. 6 from 4-7:00 p.m., Sunday 4-7:00 p.m., and Monday
from 3:30-7:00 p.m.
