Pair of Jaguars Advance At Q School

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Major Manning tied for fourth place Saturday in the second stage of the PGA Tour’s Qualifying Tournament at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Fla.

A two-time All-American for ASU in 2005 and 2007, Manning shot a final-round, one-under 71 to finish at 11-under 277 (68-69-69-71). He led after 36 holes and finished just two shots off the lead. The top 20 and ties qualified for the Final Stage of Q School, scheduled for Dec. 3-8 in La Quinta, Calif.

Todd Demsey of Scottsdale, Ariz., and former Florida All-American Camilo Benedetti tied for medalist honors at 13-under 275. Josh Teater of Lexington, Ky., finished alone in third place, one shot in front of a trio of players that included Manning and former PGA Tour winners John Huston and Robert Gamez.

A total of 21 positions were available at the second stage qualifier at Deerwood Golf Club in Kingwood, Texas, where former ASU All-American Richard Johnson was part of a four-way tie for third place.

Johnson opened with a seven-under 65-69-74-73 and finished at seven-under 281 (65-69-74-73). Chris Stroud took home medalist honors with a final-round 70 that gave him a total of 14-under 274 and a four-shot victory over Drew Laning.

The final stage of Q School is a six-day, six-round tournament played at the PGA West Nicklaus Tournament Course and PGA West TPC Stadium Course.
