ASU's Newman Third At Duke

DURHAM, N.C. -- Augusta State’s Carter Newman carded a final-round, four-over 75 Tuesday and tied for third place in the Duke Coca-Cola Individual Collegiate at Duke University Golf Club.

Newman, a sophomore from Evans, Ga., posted a 54-hole total of six-over 219 (73-71-75). Senior Mike Keast booked a final-round 73 and tied for 24th with a total of 13-over 226. Sophomore Jacob Carlsson tied for 49th at 24-over 237 (78-79-80).

North Carolina’s Philip Chauncey fired a two-under 69 to claim the tournament title at one-over 214, three shots ahead of runnerup Tim McKenney of Florida and five shots clear of Newman, East Carolina’s Tripp Brizendine and North Carolina’s Chase McFarland.

Duke University and Duke University Golf Club was the host site for the 2001 NCAA Championships where the Jaguars finished seventh and former All-American Jamie Elson was the individual runnerup.
