ASU's Newman In Contention

DURHAM, N.C. -- Augusta State’s Carter Newman is tied for third place through two rounds of the Duke Coca-Cola Individual Collegiate at Duke University Golf Club.

Newman, a sophomore from Evans, Ga., carded a 36-hole total of two-over 144 Monday, including an even-par 71 in his afternoon round. Newman leads a contingent of three Jaguars in the field. Senior Mike Keast is tied for 27th at 11-over 153 (80-73) and sophomore Jacob Carlsson is tied for 46th at 15-over 157 (78-79).

Vanderbilt’s John Ebert posted pair of one-under 70’s and is the only player in the field under par. North Carolina’s Chase MacFarland is in second place at even-par 142 (71-71), followed by ASU’s Newman, Florida’s Tim McKenney and Vanderbilt’s Trey DelGreco at two-over 144.

Duke University was the site of the 2001 NCAA Championships where the Jaguars finished seventh and former All-American Jamie Elson was the individual runnerup.

Final round action tees off No. 1 and No. 10 on Tuesday beginning at 8:00 a.m. Keast leads off for ASU at 8:09 off the first tee, while Carlsson is slated for an 8:36 start off No. 10. Newman, who will be in the final pairing with Ebert and MacFarland, heads out on the course at 9:30 a.m.
