AUGUSTA, Ga. -- After opening the season with
consecutive second-place finishes, the 25th-ranked Augusta State
men’s golf team heads to Macon, Ga., this weekend for the
Brickyard Collegiate Championship.
Live scoring of the three-day, 54-hole event will be available at
www.golfstat.com. The tournament format includes 18 holes of play
on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Oct. 11-13.
Mercer University will serve as host of the tourney, which held its
inaugural playing in the fall of 2007. The Brickyard at Riverside
Golf Club (www.brickyardatriverside.org), which features a
7,128-yard, par-72 layout re-designed by Mark McCumber, will serve
as the host venue.
The Jaguar lineup will include senior Janne Kaske, junior Jake Amos
and sophomore Olle Bengtsson along with freshmen Brendan Gillins
and Taylor Floyd. ASU will be paired with Virginia Tech and
Hartford in the first round. Floyd, a Macon native, will lead the
Jags out on the course at 9:20 a.m. Saturday morning, followed by
Bengtsson at 9:30, Gillins at 9:40, Kaske at 9:50 and Amos at 10:00
a.m.
Sophomore Henrik Norlander, who leads the Jags in stroke average at
68.67, is not in the ASU lineup this weekend. He is representing
his homeland of Sweden next week in the World Amateur Team
Championships for the Eisenhower Trophy Oct. 16-19 at Royal
Adelaide Golf Club in Adelaide, Australia.
The 15-team field includes ASU, Chattanooga, Clemson, Charlotte,
Duke, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Hartford, Kennesaw
State, Mercer, Oregon, Penn State, Virginia Tech and Wake
Forest.
