SABOT, Va. -- Augusta State carded rounds of
even-par 284 and two-under 282 Monday during the first two rounds
of the VCU Shootout at Hermitage Country Club.
The Jaguars, playing in their second event of the season, stand in
seventh place in the 15-team field. ASU is 24 shots out of first
place but just seven strokes back of second.
Wake Forest scorched the Manakin course with rounds of 11-under 273
and 15-under 269 to jump out to a 17-shot lead over Virginia and
Virginia Tech. Host Virginia Commonwealth is in fourth place, six
shots ahead of the Jags, while fifth-place Iowa is three shots
clear of ASU.
Sophomore Henrik Norlander paced the Jags with rounds of six-under
65 and one-under 70 and is alone in fifth place, three shots back
of Wake Forest’s Brendan Gielow and Wichita State’s
Dustin Garza.
ASU junior Jake Amos is tied for 18th at one-under 141 (72-69) and
senior Janne Kaske is tied for 32nd at one-over 143 (73-70).
Sophomore Jacob Carlsson (74-74) is tied for 62nd and redshirt
freshman Brendan Gillins (76-73) is tied for 68th at four-over 148
and five-over 149, respectively.
The Jags tee off in the final round of the VCU Shootout at 8:45
a.m. Tuesday morning and will be paired with Penn State and
Maryland.
