ELGIN, S.C. -- Former Augusta State standout
Major Manning fired a five-under 67 Sunday and claimed his first
professional victory by a single shot in the Capitol Chevrolet
& Hyundai Classic at Woodcreek Farms Golf Course outside of
Columbia.
Manning, who began the final round tied with Andrew Dresser of
Carrollton, Texas, tallied six birdies with only one miscue at the
par-four third hole. He bounced back from his lone bogey with a
birdie at the fourth and rattled off three straight birdies on
holes 9-11. For the week, Manning racked up 24 birdies and an
eagle.
A two-time All-America selection at ASU in 2005 and 2007, Manning
earned $33,566 for the victory. He vaulted up to No. 12 on the
Hooters Tour money list with $47,702. Manning finished at 21-under
267 for the four rounds.
Dresser tied for second place with Brennan Webb of Largo, Fla.
Webb’s six-under 66 marked the low round of the day.
“I can finally play pain-free and that has made all the
difference.” Manning said. “The course set up perfectly
for a long hitter. The rough was higher and you were rewarded for
hitting the fairway”.
The next stop for the NGA Hooters Tour will be September 15-21 at
Bartram Trail Golf Club in Evans, Ga., for the $200,000 Kandy
Waters Memorial Classic.
