Gregory Falls In U.S. Mid-Amateur

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Augusta State men’s golf coach Josh Gregory advanced to the round of 16 Tuesday in match play before being eliminated from the U.S. Mid-Amateur at Milwaukee Country Club.

Gregory, who tied for 19th at four-over 144 (71-73) during the two rounds of stroke-play qualifying, defeated David Noll, Jr., of Dalton, Ga., 2 and 1 in the morning Round of 32 match before being edged 1 up in the afternoon’s Round of 16 by Sean Knapp of Oakmont, Pa. Gregory began his run in match play Monday by turning back Scott Hardy, the head men’s golf coach at St. Mary’s (Calif.) University, 3 and 1.

The U.S. Mid-Am began with a field of 264 amateur golfers who reached their 25th birthday on or before Sept. 6, and who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 3.4.

The Mid-Am is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
