ASU Takes Second In Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Augusta State finished second Tuesday afternoon in the Aldila Scenic City Invitational at Council Fire Golf Club.

The tournament marked the 2008-09 season opener for the Jaguars, who fired a final round of 13-under 275 and finished with a 54-hole total of 31-under 833. Tournament co-host Chattanooga posted a third-round 266 and a tourney total of 819 (-45).

Junior Jake Amos carded a six-under 66 and led the way for ASU with a tie for sixth at nine-under 207 (69-72-66). Redshirt freshman Brendan Gillins tied for eighth at seven-under 209 (70-69-70) and sophomore Henrik Norlander tied for 10th at six-under 210 (74-66-70).

Senior Janne Kaske notched the first top-20 finish of his career, posting a three-under 69 for a five-under 211 and tie for 15th. Freshman Taylor Floyd tied for 40th at two-over 218 (70-76-72) after an even-par 72.

Sophomore Jacob Carlsson tied for 20th at three-under 213 (69-74-70) and senior Mike Keast tied for 51st at five-over 221 (75-73-73). Both Carlsson and Keast competed as individuals. The tourney marked the first collegiate event for Gillins, Taylor and Carlsson wearing the Jaguar blue and white.

Southeastern Louisiana’s Matt Carvell claimed medalist honors with an 18-under 198 (60-70-68). Chattanooga’s Ben Rickett led three players in a tie for second and the Mocs’ Stephen Jaeger finished alone in fifth.

ASU returned to the course this morning to complete its second round and posted a second straight nine-under 279.
