MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Augusta State men’s
golf coach Josh Gregory booked a one-over 71 Saturday in the first
round of stroke-play qualifying in the U.S. Mid-Amateur at Brown
Deer Park Golf Course.
Gregory is part of a logjam in a tie for 22nd. Tim Jackson, from
Germantown, Tenn., fired a five-under 65 at Milwaukee Country Club
to take the early first-round lead. Scott Fawcett of Dallas, Texas
shot a four-under 66 at MCC to trail Jackson by a stroke.
Former ASU standout Chris Kuhlke turned in a five-over 75 and is
tied for 109th.
The U.S. Mid-Am features a field of 264 amateur golfers who reached
their 25th birthday on or before Sept. 6, and who have a USGA
Handicap Index not exceeding 3.4.
The tournament format includes a second round of stroke play on
Sunday, with the top 64 advancing to match play beginning on
Monday, Sept. 8. The Mid-Am is being contested on the par-70,
6,728-yard Brown Deer Park Golf Course and the par-70, 7,004-yard
Milwaukee Country Club.
