Norlander Helps Lead Europe To Victory

DENVER, Colo. -- Augusta State All-American Henrik Norlander helped lead Team Europe to its second straight Palmer Cup victory Friday afternoon at Cherry Hills Country Club.

Norlander, the Danderyd, Sweden, native who recently wrapped up a stellar sophomore season for the Jaguars, posted a 2- 2-0 record over four matches on Thursday and Friday.

Team Europe, which owned a 7.5 to 4.5 advantage heading into Friday’s second day of matches, topped Team USA 13-11 overall and, with the victory, pulled even in the all-time series at 6-6-1.

Adam Mitchell (Georgia) topped Norlander 3-and-2 in the last singles match Friday afternoon. In their morning alternate shot match, Norlander and partner Robin Wingardh (Tennessee) were edged by Oklahoma State’s Morgan Hoffman and Georgia Tech’s Cameron Tringale 1-up.

The Palmer Cup is an annual Ryder Cup-style competition between American collegiate golfers and their counterparts from Europe.

AIKEN, S.C. – Carter Newman and Taylor Floyd paced the ASU contingent Friday in the third round of the Palmetto Amateur at Palmetto Golf Club.

Newman and Taylor each posted a two-over 72, while Mitch Krywulycz (72-70-73) managed a three-over 73 and is tied for 21st at five-over 215. Newman (72-72-72) is tied for 25th, one shot back of Krywulycz at six-over 216. Floyd (72-73-72) is tied for 30th at seven-over 217, while Jaguar head coach Josh Gregory and Brendan Gillins each turned in 75’s and are tied for 40th and 48th, respectively. Olle Bengtsson (76-76) missed the halfway cut at 12-over 152.

Josh Gallman, who plays collegiately at USC Upstate, will take a two-shot lead into Saturday’s fourth and final round after posting a two-under 68.
