SORRENTO, Fla. -- Augusta State posted a
nine-over 293 Friday in the second round of the NCAA Southeast
Regional at Red Tail Golf Club.
The 38th-ranked Jaguars are in 12th place in the 14-team field
heading into Saturday’s third and final round. ASU is 15
shots out of the top five. The low five teams and the low
individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA
Championships, slated for May 26-30 at historic Inverness Club in
Toledo, Ohio and hosted by the University of Toledo.
Sophomore Henrik Norlander again paced the Jags with a one-under
70 and is tied for 15th. Freshman Taylor Floyd is tied for 44th at
two-over 144 after a 73. Senior Janne Kaske is tied for 53rd at
four-over 146 following a four-over 75. Junior Jake Amos and
sophomore Carter Newman are each tied for 57th at five-over
147.
Regional host Central Florida maintained its two-shot lead over
Arizona, while Georgia and Charlotte are third and fourth. South
Carolina and Kentucky are tied for fifth. Only three shots separate
fifth through ninth place.
Arizona’s Tarquin McManus backed up his first-round 63 with
a five-under 66 and moved out to a five-shot lead in the race for
medalist honors. UCF’s David Johnson (66-68) is second while
the Charlotte tandem of Stefan Wiedergruen and Cory Nagy is tied
for third at seven-under 135. Arizona’s Tyler Neal and
Campbell’s Zak Drescher are tied for fifth at six-under
136.
ASU will be paired with Georgia Southern and Campbell in
Saturday’s third and final round. Amos will lead off for the
Jags at 8:50 a.m. on the 10th tee, followed by Newman at 9:00,
Kaske at 9:10, Floyd at 9:20 and Norlander at 9:30.
