CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Augusta State booked an
eight-over 296 Saturday and is tied for fifth place after the first
round of the Cavalier Classic at Birdwood Golf Course.
Sophomore Henrik Norlander paced the No. 27 Jaguars with a
two-under 70 and is part of a three-way tie for fourth place, three
shots off the lead. Junior Jake Amos posted a two-over 74 and is
tied for 28th. Senior Janne Kaske and sophomore Carter Newman each
managed a four-over 76 and are tied for 46th. Freshman Taylor Floyd
signed for an 81 and is tied for 84th.
No. 13 South Carolina was the only team to shoot under par, carding
a two-under 286 to open up a six-shot lead over host Virginia.
Francis Marion is third, eight shots off the lead and James Madison
is fourth, nine shots back and one stroke clear of ASU.
UNC Wilmington’s Josh Brock fired a five-under 67, good for a
one-shot lead over North Carolina State’s Adam Hogue, who is
competing as an individual. Virginia’s Kyle Stough is alone
in third after a three-under 69, followed by Norlander, South
Carolina’s George Bryan IV and Appalachian State’s
Lance Wheeler at two-under 70.
The Jags are paired with James Madison and Appalachian State for
Sunday’s second and final round. Floyd will lead ASU out on
the course at 11:45 a.m., followed by Newman at 11:54, Kaske at
12:03 p.m., Amos at 12:12 and Norlander at 12:21.
