AWENDAW, S.C. -- Augusta State fired a two-over
286 Sunday and moved into the team lead after the first round of
the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay Golf Club just
outside of Charleston.
Paced by senior Janne Kaske’s four-under 67, the Jaguars own
a two-shot lead over Virginia and are three shots clear of North
Carolina State and LSU. South Carolina and Central Florida are tied
for fifth, five shots off of ASU’s pace.
ASU sophomore Henrik Norlander booked an even-par 71 and is tied
for ninth. Junior Jake Amos is tied for 17th after a twoover 73,
while freshman Taylor Floyd and sophomore Carter Newman posted a 75
and 76, respectively, and are tied for 37th and 45th place.
Kaske, a senior from Porvoo, Finland, turned in the lowest round of
his collegiate career. He bounced back from his lone miscue of the
day, a bogey at the par-3, 170-yard third hole, with a birdie at
the par-4, 406-yard fifth hole. After making the turn, Kaske reeled
off four birdies for a back-nine, four-under 31.
LSU’s John Peterson trails Kaske by a shot, while South
Carolina’s George Bryan IV, Will Collins of Virginia and Wake
Forest’s Travis Wakdins are each for third, two shots back of
Kaske.
The second round is slated to get underway Monday morning at 9:00
a.m. The Jags, who will be paired with Virginia and N.C. State,
will be led out on the course at 10:40 by Newman, followed by Floyd
at 10:50, Amos at 11:00, Norlander at 11:10 and Kaske at 11:20.
