STATESBORO, Ga. -- Augusta State combined for a
five-over 293 Saturday and is in 14th place through two rounds of
the Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club,
but it’s the play of freshman Taylor Floyd that has caught
everyone’s attention.
Playing as an individual, Floyd – a freshman from Macon, Ga.
-- backed up his three-under 69 in Friday’s first round with
a one-under 71 and is tied for the lead at four-under 140. He is
part of a three-way tie with Tim McKenney of Florida and North
Carolina State’ s Matt Hill.
The Jaguars, who posted a 10-over 298 in Friday’s first
round, were paced by sophomore Henrik Norlander’s even-par
72. The squad’s team leader in stroke average, Norlander is
tied for eighth at one-under 143, just three shots off the
lead.
ASU began the day in 15th place and got an even-par 72 from
freshman Brendan Gillins, a two-over 74 from Olle Bengtsson and a
three-over 75 from junior Jake Amos. Senior Janne Kaske had the
round’s non-counting score with a five-over 77.
South Carolina and Florida are tied for the team lead at three-over
579, followed by Tennessee and North Carolina. Host Georgia
Southern and Kentucky are tied for fifth, five shots off the
pace.
The third and final round is slated for Sunday. Floyd will tee off
at 8:00 a.m., off No. 1, while Kaske will lead the Jags out on the
course from the 10th tee at 8:45 a.m.
