ORLANDO, Fla -- Augusta State posted rounds of
five-over 293 and even-par 288 Monday afternoon over the first 36
holes of the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational at Rio Pinar Country
Club.
ASU’s two-round total of five-over 581 put the Jaguars in
fifth place, 10 shots off the pace set by tourney host Central
Florida. Louisville is second, four shots off the lead, while
Vanderbilt and UT-Arlington share third place, six shots back of
the Golden Knights and four strokes in front of the Jaguars.
ASU junior Jake Amos turned in rounds of 74-71 and is tied for 18th
at one-over 145. Sophomore Olle Bengtsson (73-73) is tied for 24th
at two-over 146 and fellow sophomore Henrik Norlander (74-73) is a
shot back in a tie for 31st at three-over 147.
Senior Janne Kaske matched Amos for the Jags’ best round of
the day, carding a one-under 71 after a morning 76 and is tied with
Norlander for 31st at 147. Sophomore Carter Newman booked the
team’s best round of the morning with an even-par 72 and is
tied for 41st at four-over 148.
UCF’s Blayne Barber fired a nine-under 135, including an
eight-under 64 in the afternoon, and moved out to a four-shot lead
over UT-Arlington’s Bobby Massa. Louisville’s Riley
Wheeldon and UCF’s Jed Dirksen, competing as an individual,
are tied for third at three-under 141. Mercer’s Bill Jones
III and Ohio State’s Bo Haeg are tied for fifth at two-under
142.
The tournament’s third and final round tees off at 8:30 a.m.
