AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State freshman Henrik Norlander has been named to the Division I PING All-America team, according to a recent announcement from the Golf Coaches Association of America.
A native of Danderyd, Sweden, Norlander earned third-team All-America honors and became the first freshman in the history of the ASU men’s golf program to be named an All-American. With Norlander’s selection, ASU had one All-American in all four men’s varsity sports.
Norlander fashioned perhaps the finest freshman season in the history of the Jaguar men’s golf program. He collected two individual victories at the CordeValle Collegiate last fall and the Cavalier Classic in April. He helped lead ASU to a second-place finish in the NCAA East Regional at Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. He entered the NCAA Championships with a 71.89 stroke average and his four top-10’s and six top-20’s both were team highs.
The only Jaguar to play in all 12 events in 2007-08, Norlander finished the season with a 72.39 stroke average while his six sub-70 rounds, 15 rounds or par or better and his 32 rounds in the 70’s led the team.
Norlander’s selection marks the eighth All-America selection under ASU head coach Josh Gregory and the 16th All-American for the Jaguar men’s golf program since 1995.
