No. 6 Bruins Move Out In Front

EVANS, Ga. -- Sixth-ranked UCLA fired a four-under 284 Friday and claimed a two-shot lead after the first round of the Administaff Augusta State Invitational at Champions Retreat Golf Club.

In a field that includes six of the top 10 and 12 of the nation’s top 40 teams, UCLA’s Lucas Lee, Kevin Chappell and Erik Flores each posted sub-par to move the Bruins out in front.

UCLA leads No. 33 North Carolina by two shots and is four shots clear of 22nd-ranked Lamar. No. 7 Georgia Tech is fourth after an even-par 288 and North Carolina State, coming off its recent win in the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, is fifth following a one-over 289.

No. 2 Georgia, the top-ranked team in the field, signed for a two-over 290 and is in sixth place. Two-time defending champion Coastal Carolina opened with a 13-over 301 team total and is tied for 16th in the 18-team field.

Host Augusta State managed an 11-over 299 and is tied for 14th with 11th-ranked Tennessee and Houston. Senior Keith Guest enjoyed ASU’s best round of the day, a one-under 71, and is part of an eight-way tie for ninth individually. ASU freshman Henrik Norlander is tied for 34th, while fellow freshmen Olle Bengtsson and Carter Newman posted a pair of 77’s and are tied for 69th. Sophomore Mitch Krywulycz is tied for 79th after a 79.
