Tyree Myers Nets Career-High 34 Points in Victory Over Francis Marion

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's basketball team hosted the Francis Marion Patriots on Wednesday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse and the Jaguars won 69-62 behind junior Tyree Myers' career-high 34 points.

 

The Jaguars were led by Tyree Myers on his career night, adding 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Lee Flenor added 13 points and led the game with 11 rebounds, including 5 offensive rebounds. Senior Shawn Moss added 9 points off the bench. FMU was led by Holden Redparth's 29 points.  

 

Augusta (6-3, 4-3 PBC) and Francis Marion (3-6, 3-6) traded baskets early in the game. A three-pointer by Alex Cox gave the Patriots a 12-9 lead with 14:31 left in the first half, but an answering 9-0 run and a subsequent 8-0 run to close the half sent the Jaguars to the locker room at the break leading by 6.

 

Francis Marion was able to pull the game to within 7 points with 1:15 left in the game but two made free throws by Tyree Myers with 1:00 left helped to finish off the night. Myers 11 points along with Flenor's 8 points in the second half helped secure the home team's victory over the visiting Patriots.    

 

AU posted a 54.3 field-goal percentage (25-for-46) to FMU's 40 percent. The Patriots hit five twelve pointers to AU's nine, but the Jags went 10-for-14 (71.4 percent) from the free-throw line and held FMU to 4-for-8 (50 percent) shooting at the charity stripe.

 

Augusta scored 21 points off turnovers and carded 34 rebounds to Francis Marion's 31. 

 

AU stays home to take on Young Harris on Saturday Feb. 9th for a 3:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference game.
