Balanced Offensive Attack Propels Augusta to Victory Over Columbus State

COLUMBUS, GA – The Augusta Men's Basketball team captured an 80-73 victory over Columbus State. The win came from a matchup that was initially slated for January 6th but was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols. The Jaguars are now 4-2 on the season, 2-2 in Peach Belt Conference Play. The Cougars fall to 1-3, 1-3 in PBC Play.

 

 

STANDOUTS

 

A balanced offensive attack from the visiting Jaguars saw 5 players score in the double digits.

 

Again, Darren Lucas-White lead the Jags with 25 points. Lucas-White was 9-for-16 from the field and perfect from the free throw line during his 33 minutes on the court. 

 

Freshman John Whitehead III had his most impressive outing yet with 18 points, shooting 55.6% from beyond the arc. Lee Flenor added 16 points, shooting 75% from the field. Tyree Myers' 10 points, 8 assets and 3 steals help pace a limited Augusta squad. 

 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

 

After a Tyree Myers found Lee Flenor for a dunk for the last play of the first half, Augusta headed to the locker room with a one-point lead. Emerging as a scoring leader for the Jags, Darren-Lucas White went 6-for-8 from the field in the first half, turning in 13 points. Freshman John Whitehead also proved effective in the first half, shooting 50% from beyond the arc and adding 10 points. 

 

After shooting 50% from the field in the second half, Augusta was able to extend its lead down the stretch and push for an eventual 80-73 victory. 

 

The Jaguars return home this Wed Jan 20th to play Lander at 7:00pm in the Christenberry Fieldhouse. As a reminder, spectators are not permitted. All games can be viewed on the PBC Sports Network.
