INDIANAPOLIS, In –Augusta University Men's Basketball breaks into the top nationally in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll. The Jaguars are ranked 10th in the latest coaches poll released on Tuesday.
Despite game cancellations due to Covid-19, the committee continues to recognize the talent of an Augusta team loaded with talent.
The #10 Jaguars (3-0) defeated Georgia College on January 9th for the third win of the season. They travel to take on Flagler College tonight at 6pm.
Augusta is the only Peach Belt Conference school to be voted in the top 25 NABC Preseason Poll. Several teams in the rankings have not yet made their season debuts.
Darren Lucas-White scored 25 points to lead Augusta to a 69-63 Peach Belt Conference schedule opening win at home over Georgia College Saturday. Lucas-White led a short-handed Jaguar bunch that suited up only eight players as Augusta made its way without the services of starters Miguel Arnold (20 ppg) and Troy Cracknell, among others. Both players are not yet cleared to play.
Augusta has been selected to the NCAA tournament 13 times ('78, '01, '02, '07, '08, '09, '10, '11, '14, '15, '17, '19, & 2020) and ten times in the last 14 years under head coach Dip Metress. Augusta has hosted five NCAA Regionals from 2007-2011 and last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2020.
