INDIANAPOLIS, In –Augusta University Men's Basketball continues to climb the NABC national rankings, taking over the No. 15 spot in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll after three weeks of regular season play.
The #15 Jaguars (2-0) defeated Emmanuel on December 12nd for the second win of the season. They are slated to travel to Franklin Springs to take on the Lions again this Saturday for a 4pm matchup.
Augusta is the only Peach Belt Conference school to be voted in the top 25 NABC Preseason Poll. Several teams in the rankings have not yet made their season debuts.
The Jaguars open Peach Belt Conference play on January 6th with a trip across the state to take on Columbus State. Augusta's conference home opener is set for Saturday January 9th against Georgia College.
Tyshaun Crawford and Miguel Arnold had breakout games in the Jags' second game of the season. Arnold, the junior guard from Puerto Rico, scored 25 points, going 6-for-8 from beyond the arc. He also added 6 assists in the contest. Crawford, a 7'1" junior, carded 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks in the contest. Miguel Arnold , Darren Lucas-White, and Tyshaun Crawford are all averaging over 19 points for Augusta on the season.
Augusta has been selected to the NCAA tournament 13 times ('78, '01, '02, '07, '08, '09, '10, '11, '14, '15, '17, '19, & 2020) and ten times in the last 14 years under head coach Dip Metress. Augusta has hosted five NCAA Regionals from 2007-2011 and last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2020.
