Jags Fall in PBC Tournament Quarterfinals

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Starting the postseason by hosting the first round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, the second-seeded Augusta University men's basketball team fell 89-79 to seventh-seeded Georgia College on Wednesday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

  • TOURNAMENT

    Georgia College (14-15, 10-10) met Augusta (21-8, 16-4) for the third time this season and the second time this week.  Augusta had a ten game winning streak snapped with the loss.  This is the 28th appearance for Augusta in the PBC Tournament, never missing a trip since its inception in 1992 including 16 straight trips for head coach Dip Metress.

    Jags senior Rafael Monteiro finished the regular season ranked fourth in the PBC in points. He had 19 points and 10 rebounds in the contest.

    Darren Lucas White added 18 points of the bench with 2 rebounds.

    The first half proved a back-and-forth affair with both teams playing point for point. The Bobcats led by as much as 12 in the first period, but the Jags were able to narrow that lead to 4 at the half.

    Augusta took the lead early in the second half, but efficient 3 point shooting by the Bobcats propelled them to the eventual win.

    The 2020 NCAA selection show is to be held on Sunday March 8th and will dictate the next steps for the team.
