The Augusta University Men's Basketball team defeated the Georgia College Bobcats, 84-76, in a thrilling overtime game on Saturday afternoon at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The Jags improve to 21-7 on the season, 16-4 in Peach Belt Conference play. The Bobcats fall to 13-15 overall and 10-10 in the conference.
Solid 3 point shooting by the Bobcats but Augusta at a 43-29 deficit going into the half.
The Jags only shot 42.9% from the field in the first half. Rafael Monteiro led the Jags in scoring at the break as he had 10 points on 4-for-4 shooting and 4 rebounds. Tyree Myers added 6 points on 2-for-2 shooting with one three-point make at the half.
The Jags saw the deficit get as big as 16 points early in the second half but continued to chip away. A made lay-up by Robert Barlund at the end of regulation tied the score. The Jags outscored the Bobcats 38-24 in the second half to force overtime.
A 14-4 run in overtime sealed the come-from-behind win
Leading the way for the Jags was Rafael Monteiro with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Monteiro shot 8-for-13 from the field and went 7-for-8 from the charity stripe. Miguel Arnold added 16 points of his own on 4-for-9 shooting including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Tyree Myers tallied 14 points on 4-for-7 shooting including a 3-for-5 mark from three-point range.
The Jags shot 22-for-49 (44.9%) from the field, while the Bobcats went 23-for-56 (41.1%) from the field. Augusta shot 8-for-20 (40.0%) from three-point range and went 32-for-39 (82.1%) from the charity stripe.
Augusta will host the first round of the Peach Belt Tournament on Wednesday, March 4th at 7:00 pm
