Jags Blow Past Young Harris

AUGUSTA, Ga - The Augusta University men's basketball team won its eighth game in a row on Saturday afternoon with a 96-89 Peach Belt Conference victory over the Young Harris Mountain Lions in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

The Jaguars improved to 19-7 overall and 14-4in the Peach Belt, while the loss slid young Harris to 7-19 and 5-13 in the conference.

Tyshaun Crawford's huge game led the Jags. The sophomore dropped 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds during the contest. Sophomore Miguel Arnold has his second-best offensive game of the season with 24 points. Senior Rafael Monteiro was the third Jaguar in double-digit, adding 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Augusta shot 52.2 percent (36-of-69) from the floor to Young Harris's 50.0 percent (12-of-29). At the free-throw line, AU made 12-of-25 (48 percent) and the Mountain Lions 19-of-23 (82.6 percent). Augusta doubled Young Harris' rebounds 52 to 26.

Young Harris was led by Brian Harper with 21 points.

Three made 3 pointers in a row by Miguel Arnold gave Augusta a 28-23 lead with 9 minutes left in the first half. Both offensive and defensive rebounds spurred the jags to a 50-37 lead at the half. AU forced the Mountain Lions into 9 turnovers. The Jags never trailed in the second half and expanded the lead to prevail 88-76.

Augusta plays conference Rival USC Aiken at home at Christenberry Fieldhouse at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, Feb 26th. The first 500 students at the game will receive a "Jag Out" T-Shirt. 

Members of the Augusta Fall 2019 Athletic Director's Honor Roll will be honored at halftime.
