Monteiro Leads Team in Victory Over North Georgia

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's basketball team won its seventh game in a row on Wednesday night with a 92-65 Peach Belt Conference victory over the University of North Georgia.

The Jaguars improved to 18-7 overall and 13-4 in the Peach Belt, while the loss slid North Georgia to 12-12 and 8-9 in the league.

Three Jaguars scored double figures, with senior Rafael Monteiro scoring 26 to lead the team. Sophomore Miguel Arnold put up 23 points and sophomore Tyshaun Crawford had 13 points and 11 rebounds

Augusta shot 55.6 percent (35-0f-63) from the floor to North Georgia's 36.1 percent (22-of-61). At the three point line AU made 11-of-19 (57.9 percent) and the Hawks were only 4-24 (16.7 percent) from beyond the arc. Au outrebounded North Georgia 46-25 and forced 10 turnovers.

North Georgia was led by Zach Brown with 19 points.

AU never trailed during the game, but went into the locker room with a narrow 41-30 lead. Solid play in the paint by Crawford and Monteiro helped propel the Jags to an eventual 92-65 lead.

Augusta plays its homecoming game on Saturday Feb. 22nd at 3:30 against Young Harris in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
