Jags Prevail in Thriller at Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fl. – The Augusta University men's basketball team played a Peach Belt Conference thriller Saturday afternoon at Flagler College. The Jaguars won 84-82 on a made three pointer from sophomore Tyree Myers.

Augusta is now 15-7 on the season and 10-4 in the Peach Belt, while Flagler moved to 11-11 and 7-7 in the PBC.

The game proved to be an even affair with both teams at 78-78 within the final three minutes of the game. The Saints made a lay-up at the two minute mark to put them ahead, 80-78 but sophomore Miguel Arnold made a 3 point jump shot to put the Jags ahead. Flagler's Chris Metzger's dunk with 90 seconds remaining again put the Saints ahead, but Tyree Meyers' 3 pointer sealed the win for Augusta. 

Tyree Meyers and Troy Cracknel led the team with 17 points each. Tyshaun Crawford, Rafael Monteiro, and Miguel Arnold all turned in solid offensive performances with 15 points, 14 points, and 13 points respectively. Crawford led the team in rebounding with 7 boards.

Augusta shot over 58% field-goal range and outrebounded Flagler 32-30. The Saints went 13-for-24 (54.2%) at the three-point line, while AU was 11-for-18 (61.1%).

Flagler outscored scored Augusta 9-6 on second-chance points, but Augusta won the second half 40-39 and came up with the timely baskets.

Augusta travels to Francis Marion University on Wednesday Fed. 12th for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
