Augusta Tops Barton in Final Day of 45 Second Classic

Wilson, N.C. – The #13 Augusta University Men's Basketball team defeated the Barton Bulldogs 88-85 in a non-conference contest at the 45 Second Classic (hosted by Barton). The Jags improve to 1-1 on the young season while Barton drops to 0-2.

Augusta Found themselves trailing 42-40 at halftime, But Coach Dip Metress' team outscored the home team 48-43 to grab the three-point victory. As a team, Augusta shot 53.3% from the field, going 32 of 60 and six for 16 from the three point arch. In comparison, Barton was 32 of 67 from the field for a 47.8% in field goals. The Bulldogs also only went three of 23 from beyond the three point line. Both squads netted 18 free throws apiece, with Augusta having 22 attempts to Barton's 21. All in all, the game was an even affair, as both teams managed to only give the ball up eight times. Augusta managed 33 total rebounds while Barton only had the edge by one with 34.

Leading the Jaguars was the duo of Rafael Monteiro and Miguel Arnold, who each put up 18 points on the day. Monteiro was six for 10 from the field and made his only attempted three pointer. Arnold dropped in seven baskets on 16 attempts, with four of them going for three on 11 tries. Tyree Myers finished right behind his teammates with 17 points in the contest, going six for 11 from the field. Myers also led his squad with eight assists, and match Monteiro's free throw total of five.

Lee Flenor led the Jaguar defense, picking up seven rebounds in the game while also managing 12 points respectively. Monteiro found himself in the right place five times on the day to collect the rebound, with Troy Cracknell and Darren Lucas-White picking up four rebounds.

The Jags return to action when they face Claflin in Orangeburg, S.C. on Wednesday, November 13th at 6:00 p.m.
