ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Augusta University men's basketball assistant coach Drew Gibson has been named an assistant coach at the United States Naval Academy, Navy head coach Ed DeChellis announced Wednesday afternoon.

"Great to see Drew get this opportunity at the Naval Academy," Augusta head coach Dip Metress said. "Drew immersed himself into our basketball program for the two years he was here. He was instrumental in us winning the regular season and conference tournament titles this year and without him we don't hang the next set of banners in Christenberry Fieldhouse."

The Jaguars won the Peach Belt Conference regular season and tournament titles this past season, reached the Sweet 16 of the 2019 NCAA (DII) Tournament and ended the year ranked 16th nationally. The program compiled an overall record of 42-19 and a conference mark of 32-12 during Gibson's two seasons in Augusta, Ga.

The Los Angeles native recorded over 1,000 points, 500 assists and 200 steals during his four years at Wofford. Gibson earned First-Team All-Southern Conference accolades during his 2007-08 senior season. He remains the school's career leader during the program's Division I era in both assists (507) and steals (213).

After graduating in 2008 with a degree in finance, Gibson spent the next six years playing professionally in Portugal, Germany, Slovakia and Iceland. He returned to Wofford as the director of basketball operations prior to the start of the 2014-15 season. His first year back in Spartanburg, S.C., saw the Terriers win the conference regular season (16-2) and tournament titles, reach the NCAA Tournament and post the most wins in a season (28-7) in school history. Gibson remained in that role at his alma mater through the 2016-17 season when he joined Augusta's staff.
