Augusta Sets Peach Belt & School Record For Most Points In 134-93 Win Over Young Harris

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's basketball team set a Peach Belt Conference single-game record and an Augusta record for the most points ever for a single game in a 134-93 victory on Monday afternoon in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

August hosted its third game in six days on Monday afternoon and dominated the Mountain Lions in all categories for the victory. AU broke its previous single-game record of 124 points and broke the PBC single game record of 128 points with their 134 scored. 

 

Augusta seniors Tyvez Monroe, Deane Williams, and junior Rafael Monteiro all had double-digit points at halftime. Monroe scored had a career-high 32 points in the win, while adding six assists and five rebounds.

 

Jags junior Rafael Monteiro had his season-high 26 points for AU. Freshman Miguel Arnold added 16 points and seniors Williams and Aaron Byrd scored 12 each, with Williams adding 11 rebounds. Sophomore Troy Cracknell came off the bench for 10 points, four boards, and three assists.

 

YHC entered the game having scored 100 points or more in their last six contests, but Augusta held them under that mark. At the first media timeout, Augusta owned an 18-10 lead. Williams had two dunks in two minutes as Augusta built its lead by 10. The Jags were ahead by as much as 20 in the first half and went into halftime with a 56-40 lead.

 

The Jaguars went on a 15-7 run in the first two minutes and 41 seconds of the second half and never let down. AU outrebounded YHC 45-17 and scored 78 points in the second half alone.

AU plays at Francis Marion on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. and at Georgia Southwestern on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m. AU hosts USC Aiken on Wednesday, Jan. 30 for a 7:30 p.m. rivalry showdown in Christenberry.

 

The Jaguars welcome Lander University on Saturday, Feb. 2 for a Peach Belt Conference contest in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Jags host 2019 Military Appreciation Day during the event, with soldiers from Fort Gordon joining the teams for the armed forces celebration. Various military groups will be in attendance and new recruits will be inducted during the men's halftime. The women tipoff at 12:00 p.m. and the men follow at 2:00 p.m.
