Monroe Gets 1,000 Career Points In 90-63 Win Over Flagler

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's basketball team took down the Flagler Saints 90-63 in a Peach Belt Conference game at Christenberry Fieldhouse.

With a jumper at the 9:18 mark in the first half, Augusta senior Tyvez Monroe became the 30th Jaguar all time to reach 1,000 career points. He is now also ninth all time in made three pointers. Head coach Dip Metress has now coached 10 players to 1,000 points.

 

Averaging 77.1 points per game, the Jaguars had five players score in double digits, with Monroe and junior Rafael Monteiro each scoring 15 points to pace the squad. They also added five rebounds apiece and an assist. AU senior Aaron Byrd was 2-for-2 from the arc and finished with 14 points, freshman Darren Lucas-White carded 12 points, five assists, and four boards, and freshman Miguel Arnold scored 11 points.

 

After the Saints sunk the opening shot of the night, Augusta took over on their home court and owned a halftime lead of 42-30. The lead never changed as the Jags owned a 90-63 final score for their second blowout win in a row. All 11 Jags scored in the game.

 

Augusta hosts UNC Pembroke (Jan. 16), North Georgia (Jan. 19), Young Harris (Jan. 21), and USC Aiken (Jan. 30) for Peach Belt Conference games in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
